35 women knit with love
in the heart of Transylvania, Romania
In 2013, we started with a pair of socks. Now we believe in
THE POWER OF KNITTING.
WOOL IS BACK
Tică Darie has studied multimedia design at Københavns Erhvervsakademi in Copenhagen, Denmark. In the summers of 2012 and 2013, he pedaled from Copenhagen to Rosia Montana in order to create awareness about the gold mining project that proposed to destroy Rosia Montana as a village.
In the autumn of 2013, he decided to move there and to become directly involved in the community. At the end of the year, right before Christmas he was gifted a pair of woollen socks from a local woman who was passionate about knitting. The picture of the socks was then posted on Facebook. In two days, more than a hundred pairs of socks were ordered.
In a span of two weeks, 20 women from the village took to knitting the socks. Within three months around 300 pairs of socks had been delivered.
A year later, Made in Rosia Montana was founded and in January 2015 the online shop was launched.
“I CREATED MADE IN ROSIA MONTANA WITH THE DESIRE TO HELP THE COMMUNITY, TO BRING ADDITIONAL INCOME TO THE WOMEN WHO CARRY ON WITH THE TRADITION OF KNITTING.”
